Bone-Strengthening Steps

Living with osteoporosis requires that you stay motivated and committed to improving bone strength. The following steps can help support your efforts.

  • Take once-monthly BONIVA as directed by your healthcare provider. It’s important to take your medicine to prevent further bone density loss.
  • Follow a nutritious diet rich in calcium and vitamin D. As living organs, your bones can be renewed and grow stronger with a good diet.
  • Perform strength training and weight-bearing exercises to build strong bones. In a recent report, the Surgeon General recommends that adults participate in at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day. Please consult with your healthcare provider before beginning an exercise program.
  • Take extra caution in your day-to-day activities to prevent falling. Things you can do to make your home safe include:
    • Ensuring that rooms are bright and well lit
    • Keeping floors clean and clear of any obstructions
    • Making stairs safe by keeping them uncluttered
  • Ask your healthcare provider about Bone Mineral Density (BMD) tests to assess bone density. If you are on prescription therapy, your healthcare provider may periodically evaluate your bone density levels, so he or she can determine your treatment progress.

Ask your healthcare provider if BONIVA is right for you, and find out how to get one month free.
